Sando made out two cheques to the UNHCR for the Radio Dadaab-Kenia humanitarian project.

The property division contributed 0.7% of its sales revenue obtained at the Madrid and Malaga real estate fairs to a UN initiative for refugees.
The action handover was attended by Jesús Vázquez, Special UNHCR Collaborator.

Fundación Sando made out two cheques for the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR), corresponding to 0.7% of the sales made by Sando Inmobiliaria during the Madrid and Malaga property fairs. The money will go in part towards the Radio Dadaab-Kenia project, coordinated and driven by the popular Telecinco presenter and Special UNHCR Collaborator, Jesús Vázquez.

The first cheque delivered to the UNHCR was in the amount of 57,562.25 Euros, 0.7% of the sales made by Sando Inmobiliaria during the Madrid Real Estate Fair (SIMA). The other cheque was symbolic, as it represents the amount that will be the result of the same operation after the conclusion of the Mediterranean Real Estate Fair (SIM). Fundación Sando coordinates and manages this act of solidarity.

The event, held at midday today at the Sando Inmobiliaria stand at the Mediterranean Real Estate Fair (SIM), was atended by Jesús Vázquez and Susana Peña, Head of Awarenes and Education in the Spanish UNHCR committee. Esther Sánchez Manzano, Managing Director of Fundación Sando, and José Luis Miró Morales, Managing Director of Sando Inmobiliaria were in attendance on behalf of Grupo Sando.

Sando is an international business group that ranks among the ten biggest construction companies in Spain and that has a very real commitment to society.

The financial contribution will go to the Radio Dadaab-Kenia Project that Jesús Vázquez is leading, and which will provide a radio station for the UNHCR refugee camps in Dadaab, Kenya, a region in the northeast of the country, close to the Somali border. The radio station will allow for the broadcasting of educational, sanitary and organizational programs, and will enable the refugees to communicate with the outside world.

As Special UNHCR Collaborator, Jesús Vázquez is well aware of the problems faced by refugees and actively participates in different awareness and funding campaigns aimed at helping the 33 million uprooted people that come under the umbrella of the UNHCR.

Fundación Sando was created in 2006, born of the need to make a commitment to society. The foundation’s actions are global in scope, not being limited to any geographic area. It is currently Grupo Sando’s main instrument for channeling its Corporate Social Responsibility activities.

Sando Inmobiliaria, official sponsor of the Mediterranean Property Fair (SIMed), will pay the first year’s mortgage for any customers that buy or reserve their home during the duration of the event.

Grupo Sando’s reals estate division has strengthened itself this year by buying the Madrid-based constructor Agofer. This was a key operation that has made Sando one of the very biggest players in the Spanish sector. Sando has a land portfolio of over 8 million building-classified square metres, on which it plans to build 25,000 homes.
